Description: This dataset contains baseline hardened shoreline classification vector feature datasets for the United States Great Lakes shoreline. The data was created for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Office for Coastal Management to support detailed shoreline mapping and will be of value in supporting future work on the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, the State of the Great Lakes Reports, Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and other geospatial analyses. All data are projected in the following coordinate system: NAD_1983_Great_Lakes_and_St_Lawrence_Albers; EPSG 3175. The database consists of a single polyline feature class with segmented and classified by shoreline type. Each shoreline segment was initially determined to be either artificial or natural, then further classified by structure or natural feature type and the quality of its condition. The data were created by digitizing shoreline using NAIP imagery from 2014 through 2017, then compared with oblique imagery to determine structure condition and quality. This dataset creation was funded through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.
